News Release

We are pleased to announce that we have achieved a ratio of 100% of renewable energy (including real renewable energy, hereinafter referred to as "renewable energy") in the electric power retail service for corporate customers in our "Green Energy Business" from December 2024 (fixed in January 2025). The Company has long been committed to achieving a ratio of 1001 TP3T by 2030. We had previously set a goal of achieving 1001 TP3T of renewable energy as a percentage of electricity sold to customers by 2030, but we achieved this goal approximately five years ahead of schedule.
◾️ about our corporate electricity retailing services.
Based on the electric power procurement know-how cultivated through the "condominium bulk power supply service" business launched in 2004, MHI began providing electric power retail services to corporate clients in 2016. We have been promoting the improvement of the ratio of renewable energy, including non-fossil certificate trading, and are currently helping our customers decarbonize through the supply of electricity to more than 7,500 corporations/government agencies/municipalities, etc.
While the national government, local governments, and large corporations have been the main drivers for decarbonization, the recent need to reduce Scope 3 emissions of greenhouse gases (supply chain emissions) has led to the need for small and medium-sized companies that are part of the supply chains of large corporations to decarbonize their operations as well! On the other hand, the price of commodities has been rising in recent years. On the other hand, many SMEs are facing a difficult business environment due to recent price hikes and other factors, making it difficult for them to make additional investments for the sole purpose of decarbonization. With our mission of "making decarbonization not an intractable problem," we have leveraged our power procurement capabilities and knowledge in the energy domain to supply 100% of renewable energy without passing on the cost of acquiring non-fossil certificates to customers. In this way, we support the management of all kinds of companies in both reducing costs and decarbonizing their operations.
We believe that increasing the number of companies choosing clean power will help promote the reduction of CO2 emissions in society as a whole, and we intend to continue expanding the supply of electricity from Renewable Energy 100% while maintaining fair and low prices.
◾️The effect of reducing CO2 emissions
In our green energy business, we sold approximately 390 million kWh of electricity in one year in FY2023. Based on this sales volume and the emission factor (actual results for FY2023) for the conventional "regular menu" that we have been procuring and supplying from natural gas and other sources, the estimated CO2 emission reduction effect is approximately 170,000 t-CO2 per year. This is equivalent to the CO2 emissions of approximately 67,000 average Japanese households*.
We will accelerate our contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions from various industries in Japan by further expanding the amount of electricity we sell.

Japan is now in the midst of a major transformation toward achieving a carbon neutral and decarbonized society by 2050. At the same time, however, many companies are facing soaring raw material costs and instability in the electricity market, and are struggling to find ways to reduce electricity costs and move forward with decarbonization.
We are,Instead of choosing between "cost reduction" or "decarbonization," achieve both at the same timeWe are tackling head-on the difficult challenge of "What is the best way to achieve this?
