News Release
(Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuzumi Tanji; hereinafter "Resil") and Moplus Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ken Yanase; COO: Kazuaki Nakagawa; hereinafter "Moplus"), whose mission is to "make decarbonization a non-negotiable issue," have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly study services utilizing electric vehicles (hereinafter "EVs") to realize a decarbon society. ("Moplus") (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ken Yanase; COO: Kazuaki Nakagawa) have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly study services utilizing electric vehicles ("EV") to realize a carbon-free society.
In addition, based on this MOU, we are pleased to announce the start of a demonstration project for EV on-demand buses (hereinafter referred to as "the Demonstration") in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture. The Demonstration will examine the feasibility of enhancing resilience, the effectiveness of energy management, and the convenience of condominiums through the on-demand bus (MaaS) by considering EVs as "running storage batteries" that function as distributed energy resources (hereinafter referred to as "DER").

◾️Memorandum of Understanding for this joint study
Resil is working to optimize the use of renewable energy through energy management in order to realize a decarbonized society. At present, we are promoting the installation of DER facilities such as storage batteries, which are indispensable for energy management and resilience improvement, in condominiums and other housing complexes.
Moplus provides mobility services that improve the convenience of mobility while also utilizing EVs, and supports the introduction of V2X (*) energy management services that ensure emergency power supply, peak power shifts, etc. as a solution to effectively utilize these EVs.
Under the MOU, the two companies agreed to examine together the feasibility of a business model in which EVs are introduced as transportation services that enhance the convenience of condominiums, and are also used as "running storage batteries" to improve energy management and resilience.
*This is a generic term for technologies and systems that connect vehicles (EVs) to various things such as houses, condominiums, and transportation infrastructure. In recent years, EVs have been attracting attention as a solution to energy problems.
◾️About this Demonstration
Background and Objectives
The social implementation of storage batteries is essential for the spread of renewable energy. On the other hand, there have been cases in which the installation of storage batteries in condominiums has been hindered by physical constraints such as the need to secure space. The two companies have been discussing ways to solve this issue and have decided to launch an on-demand demonstration project using EVs, which can function as both mobility and storage batteries. The purpose of this demonstration project is to verify the effectiveness of the EV on-demand bus service, which aims to improve convenience for residents during normal times through the operation of the EV on-demand buses, and at standby time to perform energy management functions by recharging and discharging as a DER, and at disaster time to secure emergency power for condominiums by utilizing EVs as DERs. The purpose of the project is to verify the effectiveness of these measures.
<Outline of this demonstration
This demonstration will be conducted at one condominium in Funabashi City where Resil's "condominium collective power supply service" has been introduced, and EV on-demand buses will be operated to connect nearby hospitals and commercial facilities for the residents of that condominium. The vehicle will be a Nissan Caravan EV provided by Moplus for the first time, and will be used as a mobility vehicle with both "mobility" and "power storage" functions.
Service operation for residents is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2025, and installation of EV charging and discharging equipment in the condominiums and verification of the effectiveness of energy management is scheduled to begin by July 2025.
In addition to Regil and Moplus, the demonstration will be conducted by Spare Technology Solutions Inc,President and CEO(Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kota Hamachi; hereinafter "Mitsuba Mobility") and CN Holdings Corporation (Head office: Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; President: Isao Yamamoto; hereinafter "CNHD").
Reservations and dispatch management for the EV on-demand buses will be handled through an AI-based on-demand transportation system and dedicated application provided by Spare. Mitsuba Mobility, a provider of transportation security, will be in charge of operation and management, while the vehicles will be inspected and maintained by three companies of CNHD, a group of Nissan Motor sales companies in Chiba Prefecture (Nissan Chiba Motor Co. The various players in the mobility field will support this demonstration project by leveraging their respective expertise.
◾️ Yasuzumi Tanji, President and Representative Director, Resil Corporation Comments
Resil's per-purpose is to "continue to resist social challenges as a point of cohesion". Last year, we launched a condominium VPP service that links storage batteries installed in multiple condominiums served and optimizes power by utilizing AI.
This demonstration project aims to improve convenience for residents and reduce CO2 emissions by linking condominiums, nearby hospitals, commercial facilities, and other living locations with EVs. In the future, the project envisions the use of automated mobility to connect the approximately 243,000 condominium units and 7,400 businesses and municipalities served by Regil to optimize both energy and transportation.
The cooperation of Moplus, Spare, Mitsuba Mobility, CNHD, and various other players, who brought their knowledge and networks to the project, made it possible to implement solutions in society that could not have been realized alone. We at Regil are truly honored to be able to borrow the valuable Nissan Caravan EV, which was specially created for this demonstration project. We will continue to carefully examine, through collaboration with other companies, whether EVs can function as "running storage batteries" and what value on-demand service provision can bring to the lives of residents through the demonstration.
Going forward, Resil will continue to challenge a new way of society, while deepening cross-disciplinary collaboration for the flexible use of DER and the creation of a sustainable energy infrastructure.
◾️ Kazuaki Nakagawa, COO, Moplus Corporation Comments
Moplus, whose purpose is to "add vitality to society through mobility," is working on these initiatives so that "mobility" can continue to be a means of protecting and enjoying safe and secure lives, and evolve into a social platform that supports medical and nursing care, tourism, energy, and disaster prevention functions in the future. We are promoting these initiatives to ensure that "mobility" continues to be a safe and secure way to protect and enjoy our daily lives.
We have decided to initiate this co-creation project because we share Resil's desire to build a sustainable energy infrastructure that supports people's lives and industry under the slogan "Don't make decarbonization an intractable problem". We will continue our discussions with Resil in order to build a sustainable service model that solves social issues through the challenge of creating a new framework utilizing EVs.
