News Release
(Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuzumi Tanji; hereinafter referred to as "the Company"), a climate tech company that takes on the challenge of solving social issues based on its vision of "making decarbonization an intractable problem," has started optimal arbitrage*1 control for two storage batteries installed in condominiums with bulk power supply service. (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuzumi Tanji) has started optimal arbitrage*1 control of two storage batteries installed in condominiums with bulk power receiving service.
We are promoting the installation of storage batteries in condominiums through our condominium disaster prevention service*2, a bulk power supply service with added functions to enhance disaster resilience, and expect the number of batteries installed to reach 3,000 units by 2030. By controlling the arbitrage of storage batteries using the difference in electricity prices by time of day, we are able to reduce the cost of electricity procurement, which in turn leads to improved profitability of the condominium disaster prevention service.
In addition, as the number of storage batteries installed increases, we will seek to further expand profitability by broadening the applications of storage batteries, such as providing regulating power to the supply-demand adjustment market, etc. We are also developing RA system*3 functions and aim to implement complex control logic that optimizes control for multiple applications by the end of FY2024.
1 Transactions in which retail electricity providers earn a marginal profit on electricity prices through the wholesale electricity market, etc. Unit prices are fixed for each 30-minute period, and electricity is charged during low price periods and discharged during high price periods.

■Background
In April 2023, we will start providing condominium disaster prevention services to meet the growing need for countermeasures against power outages in the event of disasters, and will install storage batteries and solar power generation systems to supply electricity to common areas of condominiums during disaster power outages. A storage battery and solar power generation system will be installed within the condominium premises to supply electricity to the common areas in the event of a disaster power outage.
However, while storage batteries are equipment that contributes to strengthening the disaster resilience of condominiums, we bear the expensive initial installation costs, so cost recovery through recharging and discharging during normal times is an important theme.
■ Benefits and Future of Optimal Arbitrage Control of Storage Batteries
An analysis of the electricity demand patterns of our customer base of condominiums receiving bulk power showed that they are close to JEPX's price patterns and that large fluctuations in demand are unlikely to occur. Therefore, we developed a profit maximization logic focusing on arbitrage by taking advantage of the difference in electricity prices at different times of the day. Controlling the recharge and discharge of storage batteries with an RA system that implements this logic will reduce power procurement costs*4 and contribute to the efficient recovery of the initial installation costs of storage batteries.
By expanding the introduction of condominium disaster prevention services, we will increase the number of storage batteries that can be arbitrage-controlled to about 3,000 units by 2030, thereby increasing the revenue impact from condominium disaster prevention services and expanding their applications, such as providing regulating power to the supply and demand adjustment market and capacity market. In the future, we will also develop RA system functions, and by FY2024, we will implement a composite control logic that optimizes control for multiple applications to further improve profitability.
By expanding the functions of control resources and storage battery control systems in conjunction with the growth of condominium disaster prevention services, we will create a condominium VPP network, promote the provision of services to various electricity markets, and further promote the development of other companies using the systems we have developed.
4 Chuo Denryoku Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Regil Corporation, procures electricity as a retail electricity provider supplying electricity to condominiums receiving bulk power.
■Regil's approach to the use of storage batteries

A solar power generation system and storage batteries are installed in condominiums. The electricity generated and stored is used for aggregation business during normal times, and is discharged to the common areas of the condominium during a disaster power outage, enabling safe and secure evacuation from home. Initial costs are covered by Resil.
<Project to strengthen building BCP measures through the use of storage batteries

Storage batteries are installed in the building. The stored electricity is used for aggregation business during normal times and discharged to common areas of the building and tenants' private areas during a disaster power outage to strengthen the company's BCP measures. Initial costs are covered by Resil.
